It's a bird, It's a plane! Naw, It's just a QUARTER

As the result of a statewide vote, Governor Brad Henry announced today that Oklahoma's commemorative quarter will feature the state bird and state wildflower: the 'Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher', and the Indian blanket (Gaillardia pulchella).

More than 148,000 votes were cast in selecting the design for the quarter, part of a special series launched by the U.S. Mint in 1999.
Not enough supporters of the University of Oklahoma Football teams, nor of the Oklahoma State Wrestling teams could be found, sober enough, to vote for the various college sports-related versions of design.

"Oklahomans have spoken and the results are clear," an unusually totally-sober Governor Henry said of the online vote, in which people chose between five design proposals.

"In the year of our glorious centennial, I felt it was important to give Oklahomans the final word on what will grace our commemorative quarter, said Henry.

He added, "Oklahoma has a rich heritage and diverse culture, and so it was a formidable challenge to distill everything that is Oklahoma down to a single design (IT'S A BIRD!) . But tens of thousands of our citizens took that challenge, and the result is an illustration that attests to the state's natural beauty."

The online vote capped a design selection that the Governor had crafted to let Oklahomans choose what would appear on the quarter.

Oklahomans then voted again, choosing among the five designs crafted by the U.S. Mint.
All right, so our conservativism rules again. I am all for that, as you know, as well as 'majority rules'. Happy as a clam in warm water, I support and will gladly spend these Oklahoma quarters. But IT'S A BIRD!! And it's our legacy... OH BOY!!
It's just bird-brained, too. What Oklahoma doesn't want people elsewhere to know, is,
the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is a nuisance around here!
Here is hope: The citizens of Arizona still have the opportunity to choose a realistic and fully representative option, for their commemorative quarter design, all while making a truthful political statement to the world!
Look at all of these great designs for Arizona!, at

Could be that your Governor is a "Bird Brain", or is that just a politically correct way of representing your State?

Yeah, he is a bird-brain; He's a Democrat, since thinking is just too hard for him.

But look at today's post: He will sign this Immigration Bill, and send Mexicans scurrying to California!!
