"Nothing Even Close"

lovingly lifted from The Intergalactic Source of Truth, Col. B. Bunny, proprietor.

"MAJESTIC"
is the term the Colonel uses to describe both J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, and he may also be speaking of this unusually visual performance of the classic organ piece, just below.

I marvelled at the seemingly topographical quality of watching/listening to the musical notes, seeing both mountains, ocean's waves landing on a beach, and clouds therein, -and that was pleasant- but also imagining the same geography passing before Bach's own mind's eye, as he composed the Toccata.

I encourage you to view the whole video, and see the whole musicscape.

But Col. B. Bunny then asks the fundamental question, "Where or what is the Muslim equivalent of this? Where are the plays, movies, books, paintings, concertos, pharmaceuticals, and the like? I know of none. Nothing even close."

Has the Islamic world produced anything of beauty, anytime during its 1400 years of existence? Bunny cites unusual calligraphy and architecture as two possibilities, and each are indeed creations made early on, from Islam. Has anything other been as wonderful a gift to the world, as is Bach's ( & others ) musical compositions?

What has Islam given to the world? Ever?

certainly no Bach...
The thing that grabs me about the Toccata and Fugue and the Prelude and Fugue series by JSB, aside from my totally frustrating attempts to play them correctly, is the sheer mathematics involved. Johann was one of the first composers and the only Baroque composer to integrate mathematics into his keyboard exercise compositions. If you break them down into layers, they have very much in common with more modern works composed by folks like Terry Reilly and Phillip Glass. Or, I guess Reilly and Glass have more in common with JSB than he with them...
I've long pondered what he would have been composing if he had modern electronic recording, synthesizing and sequencing equipment on hand. Give me the chills...

My Friend, the radical elements of Islam that have taken control are not about creating anything of beauty, they are all about stifling individual and national creativity and destroying all that is beautiful, including life itself.

P.S.

Keep your eyes pealed, very soon I will be making a very joyful and important announcement. But before I make it known publicly, I will be making it to you first.

Well, thank you, sir, for that honor; and you may expect that it will go up here, as soon as it's received.

Meanwhile, I could say that both you friends Grego..s are correct in your comments.

Love ya both~!

If I'm not mistaken, the first sequence in Disney's original "Fantasia" is the T&F. Ever seen it?
