"Valley Forge" Conditions, 2014 Edition

In this never-ending Winter of 2013-14 by my count, my area of Southeast Oklahoma has endured 5 ice storms and 4 episodes of snowfall, separate.  
This latest ice storm, Sunday, may be the last straw, not necessarily the last winter storm.

It has certainly meant the last stick of firewood at our house. 
If we still had our Christmas tree up, 
I'd have it in the fireplace right now.

So we're all home again today, Monday March 3, 2014.
I took a look at temperatures/conditions 
from last March 3, 2013 at McAlester, Ok., 
via  It was 80° F last year. 
Today we hope to reach 24°.

This leads to reinforcement in the concept I've read about, another mini-ice age, brought about by Sun Spot minimums, Solar cycles (SC) and their effects on Earth's climate.  To some solar scientists, this current SC #24 reached it's maximum in 2009-10, but the number of sunspots even then, were fewer than usual; in fact, this SC reminds these guys of SC #5, around 1775 A.D., when a mini-ice age hit Europe and America for 32 years, called The Dalton Minimum, which included 1816, the 'year without a summer', where there was either frost or freezing temperatures every month of summer in New England. 
That sucked for farmers, meaning everybody who liked to eat food.  

And it was in the summer of 2011, when summer temperatures around here were above 115°, right after the Sun spot maximum; now, they say that the Sun has flipped magnetically, as of December 31, 2013, and that signals the wane of the cycle.  
Theoretically, then, another 5-6 years of cooler weather than "normal", 
whatever that is.

In a recent publication in Space Science Reviews (2013), renowned solar scientists Ken McCracken, Juerg Beer, Friedhelm Steinhilber and Jose Abreu studied the solar minimums over the last 9300 years. Based on measurements of beryllium and carbon isotopes as indicators for the intensity of cosmic rays, which are modulated by solar activity, the scientists arrived at the result that the minimum of 2007 to 2009 had similar characteristics as the minimums occurring during the time of the Dalton Minimums of 1780 to 1820. They discovered a 208-year periodicity (Suess-de Vries) of a grand solar minimum in the past. Therefore they anticipate in the near future the events of a Dalton Minimum,
but not a Maunder Minimum.
