"You Rang?"

Remembering Lurch

"Uuuuhhh ......."

Ted Crawford Cassidy died at age 46, in 1979.

Cassidy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but raised in Philippi, West Virginia. In his youth, Cassidy was an academically gifted individual. He attended third grade at age 6.

During his freshman year of high school, at age 11, Cassidy was on the basketball and football team.   Despite this, he was a frequent target of bullying by his much older peers, having already reached a height of 6 ft 1 in by then.

After playing the butler Lurch, to the Addams Family, Lurch in his alter-ego of Ted Cassidy ventured into voice-over work in Hollywood, was a guest cameo star on the "Batman" TV series, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", and even made a Lurch music Video:

I remember his voice and a Hanna-Barbera-style likeness as Injun Joe in the mixed live-action/animation adventures of Tom Sawyer.

At that age I didn't have a clear memory of "The Addams Family" and probably hadn't seen that episode of "Star Trek" (it debuted when I was four and syndicated reruns on afternoon TV didn't start for a few years yet after NBC canceled the series).

What "Star Trek" ??

Are you likening Lurch to Spock, or Batman to Kirk?

Gotham City to our galaxy?
